The original prints of Yori Wada (about 1983) and Dr. Richard C. Caesar (about 1996) had faded badly. Each print was photographed, digitally upscaled, and corrected for the color shifts caused by fading. A color treatment based on the professional portrait film most likely used at the time, Kodak Vericolor III, was then applied.

“The goal was to show how each print likely looked when it was new.

About the dates and names

Where a photo came with a date or caption, the archive uses it. Many class scans have no date; for those, the archive gives an estimate, such as “about 1970s”, and says so. Names are given as they appear on the photos and letters; Japanese names are written in katakana unless the original gives the kanji.

The photos and documents from 1942 record the forced removal of Japanese Americans from San Francisco. They are shown as they were made, with captions that describe what happened plainly.1942年の写真と文書は、サンフランシスコからの日系アメリカ人の強制退去の記録です。
